Five Top Tips for Flower Arranging
These are five top tips, from experienced florist Sarah, owner of Rook Botanics.
Follow these tips to up your flower arranging skills.
Start with a Strong Focal Point
Every stunning floral arrangement begins with a focal point. Choose a bold, eye-catching flower, like a rose, peony, or sunflower, to serve as the centrepiece of your arrangement. This creates a natural starting point and adds depth to your design.
Balance with Filler Flowers & Foliage
To create texture and dimension, mix in filler flowers like limonium or waxflower, and complement them with greenery. Foliage like eucalyptus or pistache helps to fill out the arrangement, providing contrast and making your focal flowers stand out even more.
Use Different Heights
Vary the height of your stems to give your arrangement a more dynamic, natural feel. Taller flowers can stand proudly in the center, while shorter blooms and greenery help build layers around the edges, giving your display movement and flow.
Work with Color Harmony
Choose colors that complement one another, whether you're going for a monochromatic look or a more vibrant, contrasting palette. Soft pastel tones offer a romantic feel, while bold, contrasting hues make a dramatic statement.
Keep It Fresh
Freshness is key to long-lasting beauty. Keep flowers hydrated, trim the stems at an angle, and remove any leaves below the waterline. Place your arrangement in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight or heat, to ensure it stays fresh and vibrant for as long as possible.
By following these simple tips, you’ll be well on your way to creating stunning, professional-quality floral arrangements at home!
